DVD. The Volkswagen Beetle will defi nitely remain immortal in people's minds. In every corner of the World, there exist memories of one of the most successful cars of all time. More than twenty-one million examples have been built. This fi lm recalls the glory days of the Beetle in international rallying. At the centre of the action are the legendary rally cars from Porsche Salzburg that were built and run extremely successfully by the Austrian Volkswagen and Porsche importer during the 1960s and 1970s. Porsche Salzburg team-manager, Gerhard Strasser, remembers with pleasure and not a little surprise just how competitive these cars turned out to be: 'One can make the Beetle such a wicked animal'.
In the skilful hands of fearless drivers the Beetle with its 125 bhp put up a great show to the excitement of the fans. This fi lm shows the heyday of the Salzburg rally Beetles, but also covers the early beginnings of Volkswagen competition in both Kenya and Europe as well as the entries of ex-works cars, after Porsche Salzburg stopped its activities at the end of 1973 thanks to the fuel crisis.
